Artist Natalia Kapchuk Unveils ‘The Lost Animals’ Series: A Powerful Call for the Protection of Endangered Marine Species.

In October 2024, following a strong public response, the art series “The Lost Planet” shifted its focus to showcase the beauty of nature and raise awareness about global ecological issues. The series has gained widespread support and popularity within the international art community, being featured at various events, fairs, and solo and group exhibitions across countries like France, Italy, Spain, the UK, the US, the UAE, India, China, and South Korea. It has also received backing from charities such as Plastic Oceans Europe, Earthwatch Europe, the World Wildlife Fund, and the Better World Fund. Artist, philanthropist, art collector, and environmentalist Natalia Kapchuk has completed her latest mixed-media project, “The Lost Animals”. In this work, Kapchuk continues to explore the effects of human activity on our planet’s majestic lands and oceans. She pushes her artistic boundaries, experimenting with different mediums to create powerful portrayals in her distinctive style.

This powerful and eye-catching art series tackles one of the most pressing environmental issues today: the rapid decline and possible extinction of critically endangered species around the world. Natalia Kapchuk, an artist and eco-activist, shines a light on this crisis with a mixed-media collection of sculptures, each one dedicated to a species found on The International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) Red List.

“The Lost Animals” is not just an art project; it’s a call to action. Each sculpture in the series represents a unique endangered species and is a strong tool for advocating their protection and conservation. Kapchuk’s sculptures are carefully made, reflecting years of detailed research into the habitats and life histories of these vulnerable marine creatures. The artist’s dedication shines through in the intricate craftsmanship of each piece, which uses recycled fiberglass, flocking techniques, hand detailing, and electroplating to create a visually stunning and richly textured experience.

Kapchuk’s sculptures beautifully show the delicate nature of each species, serving as a powerful reminder of the dangers they face from human activities. Issues like commercial fishing, poaching, pollution, and the damage to marine ecosystems are reflected in each artwork, highlighting how all life on Earth is connected and the urgent need for action.

The diversity, beauty, grace, and mystery of our planet’s marine life have deeply inspired me,” says Kapchuk. “Unfortunately, many species are facing dramatic population declines and potential extinction, largely as a result of human activities. Through The Lost Animals series, I aim to confront these critical threats and awaken viewers to the heartbreaking realities our wildlife faces. My hope is that this work will foster a greater commitment to conservation and protection.”

“The Lost Animals” features several species, including the Blue Whale, Great Hammerhead Shark, Hawksbill Sea Turtle, Spinetail Devil Ray, Spotted Seahorse, Green Humphead Parrotfish, Great White Shark, Killer Whale, and Sunflower Starfish. Each sculpture highlights the urgent threats these animals face and emphasizes the importance of coming together globally to protect them and maintain the delicate balance of our oceans.
